IRCTC-The flight booking irony!

IRCTC,India’s most favored destination for ticket booking has recently launched ticket booking facility for flights. This was a surprise for regular visitors of the site who were used to seeing train booking details instead of flights.

One avid user of IRCTC website remarked “I think IRCTC has given us more choice on their website by offering flight tickets,hence people like me who had got adjusted to the never ending loading sign when booking trains were facing severe difficulty in booking tickets on other travel websites due to their excessive speed. This is a boon for many IRCTC loyalists! ”

Many die hard fans also spoke about how difficult it was for them to book tickets on websites such as makemytrip, yatra..etc since bookings were done so fast that they could hardly keep up with their speed.

Mr Rakesh Kumar,Managing director of IRCTC said following in an interview with us.

Rakesh:The response has been fantastic and many users are very happy with this.

Faking news:When train ticket bookings are only so slow,why did you launch flight ticket booking facility?

Rakesh:Our website may seem slow but we are doing a social service by making bookings slow. When you see the forever loading sign,you wait with patience. Many users have written to us saying their patience level has greatly increased after using our website. So now even flight users can enhance their patience level,by booking flight tickets here.

Faking news:Are you planning to launch more such facilities in future?

Rakesh: Absolutely! We want all the different sections of people in our country to enjoy our highly efficient service and hence we are contemplating on launching ticketing facilities for Bus, Ships and even taxis in future.

Many users were unsure if they would use this new facility. But this announcement came as a big disappointment to many kids in the country. Kids we spoke to told us that earlier parents were giving them punishments such as no TV,or no playing outside when they got low grades. But off late as a punishment kids were being told to book an IRCTC ticket as a punishment.

A parent from Bangalore confirmed this trend and told FN “Nowadays kids spend a lot of time online,so if my child gets low grades i tell him to book an IRCTC ticket. Since I started implementing this,his grades have gone up dramatically! “.

Now even parents who travel by flights can use this punishment on their kids. With more ticketing avenues on IRCTC,kids are a worried lot.

Another section of users say they usually do lot of tasks in between booking a ticket. Rahul from Kolkata says he usually clicks on the book ticket button on the website and goes for a bath. When he returns the payment option would have just loaded. So this technique of multitasking was used by many users.

Finally bookies seem to be cashing on the “IRCTC mein book karo” game. Many bookies say the odds of booking a ticket in one shot is so low and since the results vary wildly,this type of betting is catching up fast. With flights added to the website,bookies are now expecting a very wide range of audience. Also the bookies become very busy during 10 o clock daily as the tatkal ticket booking opens at this time. A well known bookie remarked that a person has better chance of winning a lottery than successfully booking a tatkal ticket in one attempt in mornings. The unofficial bookie association welcomed the new flight booking facility with great excitement.

In June 2012 Stuxnet was found lurking in the database of powerplants,banks and nuclear plants around the world.!

Among them the ability to turn of the pressure inside the nuclear reactor or switch of oil pipelines and stuxnet could tell the operator that everything was normal.!
Unlike other viruses Stuxnet doesn't carry any forged security clearance...that helps viruses burrow into systems.It actually had a real clearance stolen form one of the most reputed companies in the world(Realtek if you really want to know)!
It exploited the security gaps which the system creators were unaware of,these holes are known as zero days,and the most successful viruses exploit them.The details of the zero days can be sold on the black market for $100,000.
Stuxnet took advantage of TWENTY such zero days.Once stuxnet was buried in a system it didn't always operate.It would be activated only upon finding specific targets,without which the code would be dormant.
Well what was it looking to shutdown?
The nuclear centrifuges that spin nuclear material at Iran's nuclear enrichment facility.
STUXNET was a weapon the first one made entirely out of code.!
The thing about stuxnet is that it is open source,hence it is freely available online for anyone to tinker with.This code which has the ability to shutdown nuclear power plants is more easily available than your game updates or system updates.
Iran responded by making an open call for hackers and now has the second largest cyber army in the world known as Iran national Revolutionary guards.
The creators of the virus,ok stuxnet consist of heavily guarded coders who know what to get from where.Fingers are being pointed at US and Israel but they have shrugged it off.The maker of the nuclear centrifuges also was blamed for not exploring the zero days.Siemens which has its equipment in the facility had software which had exploits and one which no one knew about!
So whats next?
Cyber warfare is just getting whole new face in this computer driven world of ours.
It doesn't matter who uses it or what they can do,all that is matters how it can affect us.

Nokia?

Not long back nokia announced that its its ditching its most successful software(for dumb phones atleast)-namely symbian..
But now as it is seen nokia is just not giving up easily on symbian.
first the announcement of windows 7 on nokia phones this year and then the release of N9! N9 runs meego and its another platform the company designed with intel which is based on linux platform. Hell its pure linux platform more so than say android..but since meego doesnt have an eco system they decided to end meego too...and this is their last device with that os.
it goes to prove that nokia is trying to showcase its design prowess and its brilliant hardware with N9..and now its just coming that nokia is releasing X7 this fall.
And believe it or not nokia is putting symbian anna to it! so we have nokia on one hand now and 3 platforms.
1)symbian(mostly dead)
2)meego(very promising and powerful but seeing its end in few months)
3)symbian anna(new symbian but guess its the same ol symbian with a bit of nic nacks here and there..)
4)windows 7 phone(newest one coming soon in future)
But it remains to be seen when they would release windows 7 phones.They seem very promising and probably could pose serious threat for ios or android..
Time will tell though....
